Alright. This stems from my idea in the Thanksgiving thread, so let's get it rolling.

The idea is, sending a card or book or something around. If it's a small little journal book, the person who has it at one time can just hold on to it for a week or less, and write as much and draw as much as they want in it.

Some general common sense rules:

1. No defacing anyone elses entries
2. No poisoning other Truenuff fans
3. No stealing the book
4. No completely obscene stuff (be mature)

Anyways, just sign up here, with your general location if you're interested.

So far we have:

Heffer: Dorchester, England
NMO: Sydney, Australia
Jace: Sydney, Australia
Slaine: Adelaide, Australia
Caesar: Monterrey, Mexico
Drummer: Texas, USA
Slippy: Texas, USA
Ini: Florida, USA
Overkill: Tennessee, USA
Syde: Illinois, USA
Air: Illinois, USA
Kel: NJ, USA
Hawt: Ontario, Canada
Xelo: Ontario, Canada
Majin: BC, Canada
Nikki: BC, Canada

Ok, since we have two islands to send to, I was thinking, start in England, go to Australia, then to Mexico, then to USA, then back up to Canada. So, the list of people above is in the tentative order that I'm thinking this will be sent.

Alright, so let's straighten out exactly what will happen.

Someone buys a book. In my mind, I see a Sketchbook or the like (a bound book with lotsa blank pages in it). The first person spends a week, writes whatever the hell they want in it for the Crew to see (fanart, notes, words of praise, but lets keep it someone clean, yes?) and as I'm seeing a moderately large book there should be enough room for everybody to write as much as they want.

Kel saved me the trouble of writing that, thanks darlin'. And for the record, the Crew keeps the book.

Anyways, yeah that's pretty much how it'll work. And here is a tentative map of the route our book shall take:

The order you've got it in takes it in loops, Hawt. Best bed would be:

England

East US
Down to Florida
Mexico
Texas (Probably cheaper to send to Australia from here than Mexico)
Australia
BC

Caesar

wouldnt it be easier to travel it from "right to left" ? this means... australia, england, mexico, usa, canada ?

Australia to England is halfway around the world, passing over most of us on the way.

If you want to keep addresses reasonably private tho, then it's Australia to Illinios/Texas. :Þ

However. I think you'll find that distance isn't as much of an issue. It will cost the same to send from here to the UK, as to the US or to Canada. So moot point.

Jace101
10-13-2003, 11:55 PM

Aaaalrighty. As I take it, it goes like this:

Someone buys a book. In my mind, I see a Sketchbook or the like (a bound book with lotsa blank pages in it). The first person spends a week, writes whatever the hell they want in it for the Crew to see (fanart, notes, words of praise, but lets keep it someone clean, yes?) and as I'm seeing a moderately large book there should be enough room for everybody to write as much as they want.

The first person sends it to the second. They spend a week, write/draw whatever it is they want. So on, so on, and eventually it ends up with Nicolie, who will pass it on to the Crew, who shall revel in the joy of our love~

That's how I see it. Hawt can correct my wrongs.

And I think the way that he has it is the best-- if you see it the way I do it goes from left to right, and then up. Remember folks who sign up that you're responsible for shipping it to the next person, so if you have a problemo with costs to ship it internationally you might want to note that.

LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN BAYBEE. :D

Caesar

would there be a list saying who someone's supposed to send it to next? like the address or whatever?

Xelopheris
10-14-2003, 10:31 AM
The address would be sent in a private message of course, for privacy. However, we should get an order straight before starting it out. One person per country should go and check how much shipping a small scrapbook would be to all the others.

I'd be willing to bet, cheapest route would probably be...

Australia
Mexico
The US, ending in North East (I think kel's there)
England
Back down into Canada to Hawt,
North to me
West to Majin
And he sends it to one of the crew locally.

SiegeTheGrave
10-14-2003, 11:18 AM
i would think that it would cost less to go from one continent to another. meaning Mexico -> US -> Canada as the last end of the route. i don't see why it needs to keep going back and forth between oceans 3 or 4 times.

i would think that it would cost less to go from one continent to another. meaning Mexico -> US -> Canada as the last end of the route. i don't see why it needs to keep going back and forth between oceans 3 or 4 times. One would also think the International shipping for TShirts to Europe would be more expensive than the intranational to eastern Canada from BC.

Also, rather than going Halfway around the world, which would likely cost a lot more than say, sending it a quarter of the way, it makes it's way around tehre for a bit, then the other quarter, would be more cost efficient. Also, Canada would definately end it to keep from the most international charges since the crew is in B.C., so you would have to send Australia -> England -> Mexico which pretty much constitutes the same distance as going around the world.

Surely you people have one of these:

Basically, US/Mexico/Canada all cost the same, UK is like $4 more expensive if you go the full on courier service, but it's effectively the same as America.

Aaaaaaalroighty. I've been looking into this, and what we're going to need is SOMETHING that will fit into a large envelope (one of those orangish deals) and isn't too heavy, or we are going to be positively ass raped on postage.

I'm bad with weight estimates, and I'll look into it more tonight, but yeah. Big envelope = Saving $10-$20 on intl shipping.

kkomafo
10-15-2003, 09:56 AM
i guess for now i'm in. ..it kind of depends on how much postage is and how easy it'll be for me to get to the post office...

Sydeshow
10-15-2003, 10:06 AM
I can't see us passing this around to 15 - 20+ people and having it become affordable.
I say.. one book per continent. Get a nice stylish book of heavy drawing paper. pass it about the continent, have people draw / write / post pictures and send it on to threeboy. :)
(with the last person getting raped for international shipping fees)

SiegeTheGrave
10-15-2003, 11:19 AM
that's a good idea, Sydeshow, although i like the original idea better just cuz you get the mixture of cultures and we can all get to know each other more with it, although the first person wouldn't learn much about anyone but still. i dunno. that's just my thought.

kel
10-15-2003, 12:15 PM
Alright, since lunch, I've been doing a little more (aka fuck, a lot, glad I had a whole block to do it) research on it. I'd estimate the book to be ~2 lbs or less, based on estimates using books approx the same size as what I'm seeing. Get a large envelope and it'd fit.

We'd definitely need to refrain from hopping countries more than neccessary. After that, we should be good. Well, mostly.

USA shipping to Canada, England, Australia or Mexico all runs from $7-$10, general shipping (takes a couple weeks).

Australian shipping to C, E, A or M runs from $14-20.

From England, it goes more along $23-28.

From Canada, it goes from $7-$10 for USA, and ~$10 for everywhere else (from BC, didnt have time to look up Ontario or somesuch).

Couldn't find Mexico shipping costs, as a few things I read said the postal service was unreliable and recommends UPS or FedEx. Problem is those things are hella expensive. Caeser? Could you look that up for me?

SO. Country skipping is bad. I say we take the England-Australia-Mexico-USA-Canada route. I know it's lots for you folks as it is, but if it's too expensive, take your name off the list. 8)

And I agree. I think we should have just one book.

Caesar
10-15-2003, 01:25 PM
yeah unfortunetly mexico's postal service is unreliable and sucks ass, thats why I was planning on driving to Texas and send it to whomever I'm gonna send it (most probably drumadict or slip) .... i'll try to take a check though and see what i can find out.

Edit: another thing we could do, is whoever sends to Mexico have it send to Texas, and have Texas send it to Mcallen or Laredo where I think a friend of mine has a PO Box, then I could drive to the border, pick it up, and then I'll send it back to Texas or wherever part of the US is next.

HawtPants
10-15-2003, 01:52 PM
ok, I still want this to be done internationally, and I think that if everyone just pays for the shipping from themselves to the next person, it should work out fine and be affordable.

And the England-Australia-Mexico-USA-Canada route is the one we'll be following.

And, like Kel said, if you don't think you can afford it, tell me and you'll be off the list.

Here's a thought:

I'll get the book. Me and Threeboy will 'set it up', since there should be a 'how-to message' and a bunch of pages at the start devoted to the order of transmission, that way we can have a quick reference as to where it went and when. We can also then set up another section for the content to give people an idea of what to do with it. I'll ship it to whoever is going to 'start', and make sure it's hella wrapped and not too heavy-expensive. People can send their addresses to ME if they want, since I'm crew and though not necessarily more trustworthy than any of you, perhaps its safer to keep the addy's Crew Only...

Also, I'm thinking we do a rewards thing somehow for every person who successfully passes it on. We'll totally do that, to make sure noone craps out... Else we'll post their address and all the nearby fans can trash the house and find the book! Woo!

My question is the punishment for theiving the book or not shipping it out.

kel
10-31-2003, 08:39 AM
Yeah, ditto. Now that the Around the World thing is known to the general TrueNuff populace, the risk is increased with people we don't 'know', per se (I mean, at least with the people here we know they're cool, not someone just wishing to sabotage.)

But yeah. What's our incentive/consequence to keep them on track? Or are we going on the honor system? :D

pinkrabbit
10-31-2003, 10:22 AM
i think there should be a deadline where people can sign up no more, then because maelstrom has all the addresses, he will know who to ship it to next, and that way if the book was stolen then we know who did it.

however because this thing may land on several continents i dont think there will be a consequence that is feasible, but incentive will probably work

If anybody steals the book, you will be stalked, beaten, and raped by a fat ape.

Personally, I don't want to do the book because of this. I'll probably lose the book. I don't want to pay for shipping. My parents get worried when I give out my address on the net, no matter who it is.

This whole thing is a nice idea. When the crew receives the book back, will they post the pages on the net, so we can see what people wrote and drew.

I'd also like to say, if you beat your meat, don't get it on the book! That would just be disgusting.

inigoesdr
10-31-2003, 09:01 PM
Perhaps finding a way for everyone to contribute without sending the book around would be better. Maybe everyone sending in a few pages, only allowed to be a certain size? Just an idea. :)

nintendo king
10-31-2003, 10:07 PM
Yeah. I think that would actually work better. Less shipping costs, no worries about stealing, etc.

What do ya'll think?

11-01-2003, 01:04 PM
Yeah can i be in it?

Caesar
11-01-2003, 01:13 PM
well, we will be keeping track out of this so we will know where the book is and where the book is heading... so in case a given person doesnt get the book we will blame it on the one who had it before and then we will go beat up his house

phearor
11-01-2003, 01:41 PM
well, we will be keeping track out of this so we will know where the book is and where the book is heading... so in case a given person doesnt get the book we will blame it on the one who had it before and then we will go beat up his house

OIC. Im down for that :)

Btw Heres another Idea :based on the Book idea:

Why Not Save on the cost of sending out a book, and send it from place to place. why not try this, or think about it.

1. Say the Crew of TRUENUFF allows readers and posters to send them pages of work they did, or drawings words pictures and what not, and then the TRUENUFFCrew Numbers the pages and then scan's them to the Net, and post them up, you know, this would then cut the cost of sendage price's down Alot as well allow everyone else be part of this as well You know.?

Yeah Probly sounds like a Gay Idea right :/

fuzzy bunny
11-01-2003, 01:43 PM
the crew already does a SHITLOAD of work. I think it'd be nicer if we did something for them instead so they didn't have more updating and stuff to do.

SiegeTheGrave

Brando
11-01-2003, 09:25 PM
It's not so much 'TrueNuff around the world' if you guys send stuff to us. Then it's just 'mail stuff to TrueNuff'. I know that the honour system is a pain in the ass and unreliable as shit, but I think that we can keep it moving along safely.

Here's why:

I will decide who gets the book next. The initial order will be predetermined, but names can be appended to the end AT ANY TIME to keep this moving. I don't see it as a one-off event, but rather something that can travel around indefinately. As a result, I will always know who has the book.

Since I know who has the book, I know who hasn't passed it along. I also have their ADDRESS. If anyone holds the book longer than the as-yet-undetermined max time, the address gets posted to the frontpage on the news and all our readers mail-bomb them until they get their shit together and move the damn thing. There MAY be a warning before this happens, but only one.

If that person claims that they never received it, then the sender previous will also get mailbombed. I encourage you to get tracked shipping for proof of transmission.

Seem harsh? Here's why it is so:

This is for fans of the comic who I would consider, and who should consider themselves, MORE than just a casual fan. 'Definate fans' if you will. Being a part of this is pretty kickass, and you are adding yourself to something that will inevitably become part of TrueNuff history. To be a part of this, you should be serious enough to be willing to make a sacrifice / donation of your time (to take care of the content adding, plus repacking & shipping) and money (shipping). If you can't scrape up the money to ship the book, then don't participate now. If you are really too lazy and procrastinatory and forgetful to be able to reship the book within a reasonable time frame, don't participate now. You can always request the book when you have the time and money for it, this project won't 'end' unless the book gets filled. Then we'll probably start a new one.

Who knows, maybe once we have books as well we can autograph them for anyone who buys one and who has successfully contributed to 'TrueNuff Round The World'... But don't quote me boy, cause I ain't said shit. And I know my autograph ain't worth shit, but it would still be cooler wouldn't it??

Does that seem fair? I hope so. I would be mighty pissed off if someone kept or lost the book, so I have to be a bit serious with the rules. If everyone is good hearted and responsible, then this will be really awesome and you'll all be a part of it.

So there jammy!

If someone stole/lost the book, I would cry.

You don't want to make me cry, do you?

OK OK OK OK

I'm very tempted to be a part of this. What would be a REAL help would be finding out just how heavy this whole package is in grammes (that's metric).

Caesar
11-03-2003, 09:38 AM
I say as a general rule to try not to make the book heavier as we pass it along by pasting a big bunch of stuff in it... maybe a few pictures or so, but nothing that will make it super heavy as it goes along.

I'm very tempted to be a part of this. What would be a REAL help would be finding out just how heavy this whole package is in grammes (that's metric).grammes are non existant. You're thinking grams

GingerNinja
11-04-2003, 02:49 AM
No, I mean grammes.

Gramme(s) = UK English/International English spelling
Gram(s) = US/UK English

As you can see, once again, the American's have taken perfectly normal English words and distorted the spelling into Amercian English.
The Canadian's are lovely people who don't crucify our lovely language.

Now - back on topic. How much is the book likely the weigh by the time it leaves Blighty?

Well, we sent it out and we lost it for awhile, but somehow it ended up, get this, "in hawtpants ass".

The government has quarentined the area and is refusing to let us enter.

If it only it would've ended up in 3boy's ass, then it would be where it needed to end up anyway, now we'll NEVER get it back.
