I've also seen a leaked email from a MSN convo I think it was between Chris (at valve) and aonther guy. Says some of the stuff about the hacking type stuff

OMGOMGOMG! LETS KILL EVERYONE CUZ THEY MIGHT HAVE IT! </GeorgeDubbya>

Seriously: The fuckers deserve to rot. At least wait until the frikkin game is out to pirate it. Hell, at least wait until it's finished to pirate it. They're idiots.

Personally, I'd think the storeline would be put in last. First they'd make the engine, then they'd make the maps, then they'd stick the storyline into it.

They need the storyline before making the maps. :P

Ini: Yeah, but it's kind of hard to put events into unfinished stuff. The storyline'll be finished, but not in the game

Ok, the story is written, and probably mostly installed into the game. Remember that Half-Life 2 will have NO CUTSCENES. It's all in-game, so the story and accompanying locations and sequences will be in by now, with minor things like art or AI or difficulty settings and networking code being tweaked still.

Of course, since it looks like hoax'ed code from HL1 and Quake, it's totally uncompilable and as such there's no way anyone can actually 'play' the game at this point.

I'm more at ease now, but still... crazy stuff.

I heard about that. It's stoopid, the only people this will help are the cheaters.

It is possible to compile it. The reason that there is source code from other games is simple - this was more than the HL2 source code. This was the source HL2, TF2 (at least we know it's coming out soon), Steam, and possibly even the original Half-Life. Bad. Very bad.

My clan leader works with the half life team and has very reliable information. He has told me that Half Life 2 is still scheduled for November, unless something comes up. Personally, I believe him. But you can believe what you wish...

All good games leak...

Doom3
Half-life 2

The point - Don't make good games, or don't make them so pub'd

It's not like they uploaded the files to some random server... they were haxed. :o

But they did have that computer on the internet which was their big mistake.

inigoesdr
10-09-2003, 04:02 PM
Maybe. Or maybe the computer on the internet was logged into a private network which had the source code on it.

Same thing, Still a mistake

I have comfirmation. Yes it was stolen. Yes it was leaked.

Further more, i've seen the game first hand and even though it was leaked, the game is still going to OWN!!!!!!

now personally, i'm not buying the whole "stolen source code" shit. why? I'm glad you asked.

For the past 5 years all of us hard core half-life/CS have been bitching at valve for not releasing the game. set back after set back after set back. I think that the entire reason the source code was leaked is a publicity stunt. they set the release for christmas and then yanked it when the code was "leaked".

as they say "free publicity is the best" and i think that's what they're doing. they want to get us all stirred up about the code being leaked and the now final release date is being pushed back again which is sure to infuriate the public, again.

so now that's it's leaked, everyone has a chance to check the game out and see how good it is. come december, i think they're going to release it and let everyone know it was all done on purpose to boost sales and interest.

just my opinion, but if you think about it, it makes ALOT of sense.

True, it beats releasing a demo version of HL2.

Xelopheris
10-14-2003, 08:58 PM
Yeah, except loyalists won't get to play their 'demo'.

Jace101
10-15-2003, 12:38 AM
But more then enough people will, and it dosent matter if they play it or not. Theres very few people that haven't heard about this, and even less who now after hearing what people think about don't want this game even more.

Narfwak

The leak doesn't do anything but hurt Valve - no matter how hard they try now, stopping cheating in HL2 is going to be incredibly difficult. Implying that valve leaked their source on purpose is just ignorant. After all, if it was found that valve leaked the source code, other companies that have their source in the HL2 engine code could sue valve.

inigoesdr
10-15-2003, 10:17 PM
What other companies would have their code in the HL2 source? I hope you have something to cite because that just sounds stupid. :?

Actually Ini, there is some truth in it. I can't remember where I saw it, but apparently there is a whole bunch of stuff. Things like the Havok engine and other little things.

Both the Havok physics engine and the Miles sound system. There might be more, but that's all I heard. DirectX stuff was already compiled, so that was not an issue.
