Not since the early says of CS has my online gaming life battled with real-life for supremecy.

For the last two months or so every single time my PC boots up I seem to click the same icon on my desktop.....Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

For those of you who have not played it before I strongly suggest you do - bloody fantastic WW2 Team shooter.

I have a full review that I wrote on my old clans forums (I'm still the webmaster) so feel free to take a look!
My sponking review! (http://lesoleilnoir.spanktastic.net/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=382)

I play it prolly twice a week, it's pretty good. It reminds me alot of MOH:AA, which is a good game itself. :)

TrueNuff - I love playing as Soldier then either Field Ops or Engineer.

I disliked Enemy Territory. It has several conflicts - one is that it tries to act like it's a realistic WWII shooter, dispite incredibly unrealistic weapon physics and ugly models. I wouldn't care if it wasn't realistic if it wasn't tring to be, but because it's a WWII mod, the conflict between the gameplay and the atmosphere is just too strange for me.

Also is the addition of both RPG elements and strategy elements. Many games, such as the excellent Firearms mod for Half-Life, have added RPG elements into team muliplayer games with some success; the same is true with strategy elements in games such as Savage and Natural Selection. However, the two elements work against each other, and do not add up to a good gameplay experience in ET.

All in all, it's a pretty good game - as far as free, non-modification games go, it's probably the best one out there. However, I do not prefer it.

i play a lot of firearms and NS, and natural selection is almost unique in its ability to infuse fps, rts and slight rpg elements into it! it also kicks serious ass!

Hmmmm. I can see what both of you are saying, but since steam shagged my HL installation and I stopped playing CS, I haven't reinstalled HL or gotten into FireArms and Natural Selection.

I disagree with you on experience and what-not in ET. I think it works extremely well, but as I have no reference to FA or NS then I cannot really argue this one too strongly.

Realism - this is RTCW and as far as I know, there were no Zombies in WW2 although if you are a long time reader of 2000AD you might believe that there were vampires on the eastern front.....

Thanks for the input guys. Anyone else?

i thought enemy territory was real good. i never really like rtcw mp, but this made it a lot more enjoyable. shame about the lack of maps though, as they pretty damn tedious after a while. also, what comic has vamps on the eastern front!?!?!? sounds like fun!

:D 2000AD had a "classic" story called "Fiend on the Eastern Front" about some Romanian Special Forces that Hitler had who were actually vampires. The tale was told from the diary of a Russian soldier and was drawn by Carlos Esquerra, the guy who created the look of Judge Dredd.

The entire story was reprinted in the Judge Dredd Megazine a month or so ago (it's a monthly publication) so you can still get it if you want.

I agree with you about the lack of maps. There are quite a few custom maps kicking around but they are difficult to find online and take ages to download via the game.

Meh, it's just personal prefference. It's a pretty good game, I just don't like it much.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee! Wasn't a bad series at all. I vaguely remember bits form years ago, but it was great to see it reprinted again. Mind you, the diary thing is getting a bit annoying. They've used it for that, Darkie's Mod, Kano and Bad Company, and a few others. But hey, it's a good plot development tool.

 So, you get JDTM as well do you? Well, issue 211 has just come out and "Charley's War" has started in 2000AD (well, IPC) Gold reprints. Hoorah! I love this story but cannot be arsed to get my complete run of "The Eagle" out of my parents attic to re-read it.

I thought this would be a Starcraft thread. :(

Well, you'd be wrong Hawt. :Þ

Yeah, get the Megazine too. I loved the review that Matt did about the history of 2000AD, shame it had to end. But that is all that's available here. Just the two titles.

That's all I get except for the Extreme Editions, which I still haven't received - I'll have to call them about that!

There is Extreme Editions??? WTF?

GingerNinja
10-08-2003, 04:31 PM
Yeah - the first 2000AD Xtreme Edition is a graphic novel on the new Judge Dredd vs Judge Death game. They are planning on doing 4 of these a year.

*checking my info*

Yep, they ARE available to overseas at £5.95 per issue (I get them for £3.49).

If it's graphic novel, does that mean that it's through Titan Books?

Gah. How on earth am I going to get my grubby little mits on it?

How do you pay for your subscription? I got sent a form which allowed me to subscribe annually (I was monthly direct debit) at this years prices AND choose to get the Xtreme Editions AND choose to get JDvsJD when it came out.

E-mail the subscriptions people and ask them for help. If you get really stuck, I'll see if I can get hold of a spare copy.

It isn't actually a graphic novel - just a bumper edition.

I don't get subscription. I want to, but by getting it normally from my newsagent, it means there is a spare copy sitting on the shelves that someone else might by and hence get into 2000AD
