On a side note:
Okay, the chicks at the hooters in Vancouver don't even have hooters...it should be called "butt cheeks" or something.
Maybe they're getting low on selection, cuz, hey...what chick would want to degrade themselves to the point of working at hooters...
Hmm...would ANYONE actually tell people that they worked at Hooters?? Hard to say

surprisingly enough people do like to admit they work at hooters. at least here they do anywayz. and my favorite radio station does stuff at the various hooters around the metroplex like canned food drives for needy people and stuff like that..its kind of ironic really... 8O

I think it's fine. It's a step up from a stripper, thats for sure.

*bleh* a SMALL step...
it's still complete degradation

Uh-oh... ;)
Frankly, I've seen just as skankily dressed waitresses in other food/drink service establishments. Hooters just isn't pretending they're not about it.

I've seen skankier dressed girls at my school...in grade 7... 8O. Kill me now.

Shit man I know what you mean. I went back to my highschool last summer, and there were little grade 8 or 9 girls walking around in shit I wouldn't want my GIRLFRIEND to wear... I sure as Hell don't remember girls wearing clothes like THAT when I was in Grade 9...
I don't think it's me getting old though. I think it goes up and down in waves, with a period of 6 or so years - most girls dress conservative but stylish to be sure, then 3 or 4 years later girls of that same year are total skanks, and then that many years later that same age group is tasteful again.

i sense much jealousy
How is that jealousy?!?!
I said that they were degrading themselves!!!
Do you see a place where guys go and prance around in short shorts?...we don't got no Chippendales in Vancouver.
I think it's a crock of shit. Really, I'm in sociology and I've had to do my share of papers on the objectification of women.
What really, do you think causes it?? Why do you think there are little girls running around in crop tops and booty shorts?? Really...get a clue.
fuck jealousy.

Earls hires mostly good looking girls.
same as cactus club & Sammy J.Peppers.

Point being??
I wasn't talking about the waitresses being good-looking. I'm referring to the principle of Hooters. What does the name imply to you??
It's pure objectification. That's what I'm against.
Women being humiliated, objectified and degraded everyday because of a society where all men care about is bodies.
The world has gone to shit and we all know it. We just tip toe around it.
It's shit.

I have to disagree that we tiptoe around it. I think most people are pretty aware of what is really going on. Don't you think?

hooters is pratcially a parody to establishments that actually degrade women.
Brando
04-01-2003, 01:14 AM
I don't think it is a parody. If it were a parody then they would all be totally ugly chicks...
Well... they kinda ARE mostly 30-somethings acting like they're still 18... so yeah, they are ugly... But still, I think that it's pretty much pure objectification.
HOWEVER.
Those waitresses CHOOSE to work there. Same way that strippers CHOOSE to strip, and prostitutes CHOOSE to sell crack (oh yes I did just say that!). Don't give me any crap about growing up in a tough neighborhood or anything either, thats shit. I think some people just like the attention they get. A woman who works at Hooters is clearly in it for the attention, because if she had any objections then she could make the same cash anywhere else. So, is it still a crime if the objectification is voluntary?
I think that there is a much bigger problem stewing and spilling over coming from the freaky thin models and lanky chicks in fashion mags. THAT is a problem, THAT causes bulimia and anorexia, which are much more serious than you get from having some ladies flaunting their curves while dropping off some beer and wings.

you took what I was talking to you about and made it into a post. Thanks.
I do understand that it's MORE problematic *in fact, I believe I was the one that brought this to your attention when I wrote a paper on it..hm...lessee...maybe last year?*,
it just wasn't the problem at hand, silly guy.

Yeah, sure, great...women can vote...but they still get discriminated against. They still don't get paid as highly as men. When's the last time there was a female president? Female Prime Minister?
...you may not think it, but there is still a lot of prejudice out there. I was referring to people's thoughts and actions. Not voting.
Sure we may not live in poverty, sure maybe we can vote *lemme say...woo...hoo* but we are still living in a society with a glass celing.

Somtimes I think women get paid less cause the bosses have to deal with that monthly "problem" maternity leave and all that femanine stuff.
There hasn't been a female president or prime minister yet becaues relatively speaking the walls holding minorities back have just recently dropped. Give it more time, it probably wont happen in your lifetime.
glass celing?

There was a female Prime Minister in Canada about 8 years ago. Kim Campbell. And I believe about the same in the UK, wasn't there? Margaret Thatcher?

furthur adding to the topic of female policiticians, good luck in the USA. They're even more rascist, and more sexist than canada.
Big ups to them.

8)
Just you watch... How the hell do you do that anyways? I want to apply.
I don't think that women should be penalized for having babies...if guys have babies w/ their S.O. they don't have to be penalized...
it's stupid.
And yes, I DO realize that men CAN'T bear children.
I call for universal daycare.
They already have it in Europe, why not here?
Haha---sorry...I was a politician in times past.
