And now, another in a series of selections from "Jerkass-to-English dictionary for IT Helpdesk staff." Entry is as follows:
"My printer doesn't work."
Translation:
"I brought my laptop in from home and even though I'm not supposed to plug it into the network, I logged in with it and am trying to plot an architectural drawing from my pirated CAD program to the new photocopier, for which I lack the correct print drivers. Since you never aticipated my wanting to do this and told me how to properly do it, this is in somehow your fault."
"I tried to print a non-work related presentation slide onto a non-laser-printer-compatible transparency in a laser printer and the plastic film has melted onto the drum of the laser printer, fucking it up so that nobody else can do their legitamate work. Since there was no warning on the printer not to do this, this is somehow your fault."
"I have been sending contracts to a printer in our branch office 1200 kms away and didn't know it. I've been standing by the fax machine thinking it was a printer since lunch and have become very frustrated with the strange print jobs coming in from other companies. This is somehow your fault."
"My monitor is broken."
