It's like when a band you like breaks up. It's like when your favorite fish & chips restaurant closes up shop. It's like when your most promiscuous cousin finally starts using birth control. It's like when a simile gets out of hand.

The last-ever Ford Taurus has rolled off the assembly line (http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_4770.aspx).
I have owned 2 Ford Taurus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Taurus)es. Wagons. Blue. I did not pick them off the lot, I picked them up from my parents, but I was happy to have them all the same. People are very patriotic about their favorite make of car, domestic vs. import, Asian/European manufactured or engineered. I do not look to take a side for or against American cars, Wagons, Fords or even Tauruses - but I will say this: They were good cars. At least my two were. They didn't complain, stuck it out through rough times, always gave me a warm or cool place to stay and whenever I've been hit by some jackass who can't drive, I always leave a nice big hole in the shape of a Ford Taurus in their front end.
In highschool, it would take me and seven - yes, seven, and LEGALLY too - to McDonald's for lunch. It stood in nicely for a tent when camping, sleeps two comfortably! The rear-facing third row seat is like a wacky rollercoaster ride along the highway, complete with possible motion sickness. The 1990 model has a strong, menacing face, and the 1998 model has a fine caboose. Both Conan O'Brien (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df4njggXQCE) and Jay Leno (http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0&sid=18) own and celebrate the Taurus. Oh and it has a great horn. Brrrrrrrrrp!
I still have mine, for a time anyway. I'm thinking she's going to get me the most value now as she ever will, but my time with El Toro is waning (and yes, I'm aware of the contridction between naming the car the masculine "El Toro" and referring to it as "she". I'm okay with it.)
Hopefully my need (in terms of family orientation) for a station wagon again will not come for some time, and I can get a smaller car, something more efficient, something easier to find parking for. I can tell you this, though: That car, THIS car, will have a place in history. Mostly because I drove one.
