Federal Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull this morning announced standard incandescent light bulbs would be phased out within three years in a bid to reduce energy consumption.

sounds like a bad (or good) scifi movie.

HUNT DOWN EVERY LAST ONE... AND DESTROY THEM.

WITH YOUR MIND.

I use the florescent bulbs in my home office - they take a second to start up, a strange delay that I will no doubt get used to.

UNLIKE the delay/loading found in today's games, I will never get used to that shit NES FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

J.Rai
02-21-2007, 08:34 AM
Actually newer fluorescent bulbs have a little catalyst in them that flips them on without the delay now.

Loki

those are fun to smash...

There's still a delay, buy some and see for yourself.

J.Rai

I have some in our entry hall, they are virtually instantaneous.

Threeboy
02-23-2007, 03:14 PM
"virtually"

I've got regular bulbs in my room, and fluorescents in my office - there *IS* a delay. It's slight, fluorescents have gotten better, but there's still a delay.

I'll handle Queensland.

I guess this means we work for the Government.

But not really.

I've always wanted to tell people that, though.

I work for the Government.

Sláine

Thing is, I DO work for the government. :P

Rolf

You bastard.

I work for a company contracted by the Government. I'm almost there.

What do you do, sir?

I tried to post a responce yesterday, but the whole forum was unacessable (it was around this time).

I think the outlawing of the incandescent lightbulb isnt very smart, cause people will complain.

But now to return to the off-topic conversation:

You make explosives for the government? Like demolition explosives or what? That sounds like a freakin fun job. (

Threeboy
03-14-2007, 11:27 AM
yeah our webhost was being jackassey - back to normal now I think.

awww rolf!

Rolf
03-19-2007, 04:28 PM
The Norfolk Government, in all their infinite (arrogant) wisdom, declined an offer from the Feds to introduce Medicare on the island .

So I busted out, and swam to 'the mainland'.

Fo' Shizzle. Vancouver-bound to be more precise.

12 month working holiday with the woman. I'm going to drink your drink, ski on your skis, and... use your freakin' weird but practical $1000 bill that I only just found out about.

And when I say 'your', I mean your.

$1000 bills have been discontinued here.

J.Rai
03-21-2007, 08:20 AM
I was just about to point that out.

Rolf
03-21-2007, 04:24 PM
The $1,000 bills are no longer printed, but are still used by banks and casinos occasionally. The denomination was withdrawn in 2000 on the advice of the Solicitor General and the RCMP, as it was often used for money laundering.
Fair enough.

They're still legal tender, though.

The 1954 series of bills caused controversy when people claimed to notice a "Devil's Head" in the Queen's hair. In 1956, the Bank of Canada revised the notes slightly, issuing a version with darker highlights in the Queen's hair. The "Devil's Head" notes were not withdrawn, and were allowed to circulate for their full lifetime.
Oh yeah. I can't see it. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Canadiandollar_devilshead.gif)

I TOTALLY want to go to Australia. For some reason it seems to me that it's always sunny there. I know that can't be accurate but everybody I know that's gone to visit there has a killer time.

And we actually know people there!

No question about it, I'm going as soon as I can.

Rolf

Well I'm on the Gold Coast, right now, and it's friggin' hot and sunny. It rained two days straight over the Easter break, but before then, I honestly can't remember the last time it rained. We do go months without it.

Just seems normal to me.

I'm expecting snow in Canada, but is it going to rain on me a shit load as well?

Ignant
04-17-2007, 04:53 PM
Adelaide was pretty hot over eater as was last weekend. Past few days have been cool and overcast though. The weather patterns are all shades of fucked up lately... But there's no global warming right? :P

Bring on winter I say. Means I don't have to go outside and can lie in bed watching movies... More so than usual!

Winter in Adelaide is pretty cold. We're one of the coldest cities I think. I'm probably wrong, but lots of interstaters tell me how friggin cold it is here.

this is all for the better though

ive been using the "5-year" bulbs for about 3-4 years now and i love them.

the electric company out here even subsidizes them at the stores so at certain times you can buy them at a big discount. Ive gotten them for as little as a buck a bulb when they normally go for 5-7 bucks a bulb
