Just a song I was listening to. Thoguht I'd share the lyrics with y'all. I'm sure I've misrepresented some of them but as you can tell it doesn't really matter.

It's by a ska band called "The Kiltlifters" from my old hood.

I'd like to talk about this spliff
I like to drink the tasty beer
I like to sleep in late
because my hands are in my pants

I like to surf the big waves
I like to play all my tunes real loud
Louder tunes are cool too
This chalk tastes funny

Just burn a Big Mac for Satan
Smoke a big fatty for Dr. J
Throw the television television television set at the neighbours
'Cause forest fires are fun

Well you may adress me as the master chef
Coke or Pepsi, who cares?
My man Nelson Mandela's got a chubby
and yo, let's go surfing!

So let's dance of the bastards
Dance of the bastards
My pants are made out of plaster
It's the dance of the bastards

And pally pulled a big-ass wedgie
Vancouver Canucks I will cry
Your parents look really really comfy
Pass me a twinkie

Pouring beer on all the tourists
Let's throw the chestnuts at all the lonely people
Make the mental sign and stick you tongue out, why?
Because I have no ass!

So let's dance of the bastards
Dance of the bastards
I get my bread from Bunsmaster
It's the dance of the bastards

If you want I think you can listen to the song on this page: New Music Canada: The Kiltlifters (http://www.newmusiccanada.ca/genres/artist.cfm?Band_Id=5297) - but yes it's ska, and I know a lot of people don't like ska, so don't listen if you're a genre snob.

I still don't know what the hell the "ska" genre is. I must download a ska song to broaden my knowledge.

Any suggestions?

well if i have it correctly, and i might not, look into sublime, mighty mighty bosstones and apparently this band

REMEMBER i am not an expert i am going off what other people have told me is ska

Koajack, that's pretty accurate for stuff that got popular, a lot of old No Doubt was counted as ska too. The Bosstones were part of a "Ska-core" movement on Boston that had a short limelight too.

Old Ska was a lot like reggae, which you can hear in bands like The Specials and The Kingpins, and some of the original tracks by The Wailers.

the only song that i know that ive heard from the specials is "ghost town"

i heard the same thing about no doubt, but i didnt want to bring in the confusion that might arise over their later pop albums

Oh! So that's what Ska is. Not too bad, I got to be in the mood for it though.

Ska is awesome although i have yet to add any into my music collection. a friend and i were gonna start a ska band back in high school but that obviously never happened. here is a band, though, that i really like their stuff...they're from my home town. there used to be a guy in it that i knew but he's not anymore... http://www.myspace.com/puregenius
