Once Threeboy decides when Gamenight: Counter-Strike is on, I have a server to offer for the night.

TrueNuff GameNight Server
I can set this up with ClanMod, Adminmod, whatever Threeboy deems neccesary.

I think Threeboy said upcoming Saturday? Yep, that'll work.

If anyone wants to test a server running on that machine, here it is:

[r2] Clan Public Server
24.68.144.228:27015

Note: This server ([r2] Clan Public Server) will be down on GameNight, don't worry about it taking up resources.

Spider Gaming has two servers we can likely offer (we can't reserve them though, we shouldn't need to anyway).

Iowa City Spider Gaming - Runs CS - 67.41.88.222:27015 - also spidergaming.com:27015
This server has Admin Mod, HL Guard, and some gnifty plugins I installed.

Iowa City Spider Gaming 2 (NS) - 67.41.88.222:27016 - also spidergaming.com:27016
Our Natural-Selection server. This game kicks CS's rather flabby ass. It can't run metamod for a while though, MM has issues with win32 NS servers.

Anyhoo, both servers are pretty fast and on a good connection. I would much rather play NS than CS, even if no one here has it. Just go get it. I know you will be a n00b, I am too, so is everyone else because the game just came out.

I need help. I downloaded NS and I installed it, but each time, it says : "Installation Complete" and the screen stays there and i have to close it using the ctrl-alt-dlt. Then I lauch NS, the window opens and its the HL interface with the NS background and all, but If i try to start a new game or join a NS game it says: "You cannot play custom game NS until that custom game is installed" wtf????

Help!

Oh yeah. That bug. NS has some installer issues, and several other annoying bits of random bugginess. It is less than a week old, and they are paving new ground.

Anyway, look on the tech support thread on the natural-selection website. I think the sire might be down though.

Hmm, I've got an idea. I think what happened is that the installer got all fucked up when they compiles it.

As far as I know, ns only installs files, and only into the ../half-life/ns directory. If we can get a compressed archive of an ns directory, you could just download that. It might get kinda big though. I'll see if I can get it set up at spider later today or tommorrow

I found out how to make it work. You have to connect to the game using CS or HL. Go in internet games search or add an IP of NS and then join in. Itll work that way. :D

Threeboy: It is up. I had the BOT server up for my clan for the day, practise, you know..

It is up now, and will be up 24/7.

ah, I thought you were having one of the more serious bugs were the installer woudldn't work at all or that game would crash to desktop. Yeah, that's just the filter bug. The game filter in NS just plain doesn't work. It also helps to use a different shortcut than the one provided, as it has way too many command line paremeters, and they are part of the problem. Just make a shortcut for it like you would any other game,

.../Half-Life/hl.exe -console -ns

and change the name and icon.

Oh, and to connect to a known IP, the easist way is to just go into the console right off the bat and type in "connect iphere:porthere" You don't need to put in a port if it's 27015 (default HL port). Also, you can use the DNS URL or the IP with the port to connect. So to connect to Spider Gaming's NS server, you can type either
connect spidergaming.com:27016 or
connect 67.41.88.222:27016

the server runs allright when it has one person on the server :P

can it be re-named "TrueNuff Game Night" on the night of gamesnight?

Lucien
11-04-2002, 02:52 PM
Glad you like it threeboy, it runs good with 30 people in server too..

Yes, it can be ranamed..

I can be giving you Adminmod powers for the night, and any other crew. What kind of mods you want? MatrixMod? Chickenmod?

IF you are a TrueNuff crew and want admin for counter-strike night, post you CS wonid here, or better yet PM it to me, and I will make sure you are set up before GameNight.

Threeboy
11-04-2002, 06:27 PM
well, that'd be cool, if you're playing that night we shouldn't have to worry about it ;)

Alright, Here are the details:

Server Name : TrueNuff GameNight
MaxPlayers: 26
Map rotation : Dust, Aztec and that map Jynx is working on? Let me know jynx...

Let me knwo if you are sick of dust or whatever..

Threeboy
11-04-2002, 09:29 PM
standard maps, no custom.. make sure cs_alleyway and de_train in there too. shouldn't be a problem with standard map rotation though.

Threeboy
11-05-2002, 12:45 AM
welp, it's been announced as this saturday. time's probably gonna be the 9PM PST thing. perhaps earlier! and for longer. it is Counter-strike for frig sakes :D

Lucien
11-05-2002, 05:26 PM
Standard map it is.

Train sucks. So does backalley. You pick the worst maps. Oh well, I am a dust addict.

Train and Backalley it is :D

Threeboy
11-06-2002, 10:34 AM
train and backalley are the only ones designed by actual game designers that knew what they were doing ;)

seriously.

Narfwak

I agree with threeboy. I mean, de_dust? Eww.

Threeboy
11-06-2002, 03:43 PM
dont get me wrong, de_dust is awesome. the bland textures even add a hint of realisim. One thing's for sure though, it's simplicity makes it a great map.

Narfwak
11-07-2002, 03:23 PM
Yeah, dust is good... the first 5000 times you play it. After that...

Threeboy

*checks to see if server is active*

still not up. Chinese Elite said he was gonna let us use it, wonder what the frig happened.

Narfwak
11-10-2002, 06:09 PM
Dude, spidergaming.com:27015 has adminmod and HLGuard, and you guys can use it if you want (I think, pretty sure). It's not like anyone ever plays on it with our NS server (which might be able to be used as well). The NS server is spidergaming:27016. Go to the site and read the readme before you touch the game though, or you will have no idea what you are doing.

I can get anymore metamod plugins you want for the CS server. NS doesn't like metamod very much, so untill the metamod team releases a new version, no adminmod or HLGuard.

Threeboy
11-11-2002, 01:54 PM
can it be renamed to "truenuff games night" and can it be passworded?

Narfwak
11-12-2002, 12:19 PM
*idea*
We can likely renamed it (I'm gonna ask today), but this weekend we are having a tourney, so we can't use the CS server. I bet we could PW the NS server, but I'm not sure how to do that with HLDS. It can't be that hard, so it shouldn't take me too long to figure it out.

However, a cooler idea for the CS server whenever you want to go there- I could make the crew and buddies admins (when we have game night only). You have to set up a few files and make a special shortcut, but it isn't too tricky. If you are interested, I can tell you about that.

Threeboy
11-12-2002, 12:36 PM
That'd be cool.

i'm not really concerned with the crew and buddies being admins. We just need an admin there, like you if you can. It doesn't have to be "our" server. It just has to be called "TrueNuff Games Night" and possibly passworded, and have one admin present.

Narfwak
11-12-2002, 02:37 PM
Well, I can't ask about it today, person I would be asking is not in untill tommorow at least. Dammit.

Lucien
11-12-2002, 06:57 PM
My ISP screwed up my account, sorry dudes.

If you want, server will be up. HAs been up, but kill my ISP... yea..

Its up, have fun,

Threeboy
11-12-2002, 07:13 PM
gah. we had to cancel gamesnight.
also, it's hosted from your house?

Narfwak
11-12-2002, 08:54 PM
Er, spider is hosted from spider. Or were you refering to Chinese Elite?

Threeboy
11-12-2002, 10:34 PM
both! :D

Lucien
11-13-2002, 12:14 PM
Yep. If you have a better solution....

Threeboy
11-13-2002, 12:18 PM
if a home server is allright.
I could run it from here.

should stress test it though.

Narfwak
11-13-2002, 02:47 PM
Well, spider is run on a 1.1 Mb/s up/down connection, and is therefore hella fast. We had about 15 people in there at most, and even the 56kers got excellent ping.

We had some dork ping-flooding our NS server last night when I was gonna stress test it, so eveyone was an HPB (god that sucked). My mouse at home has been tweaking out when I try to play NS (might just be ping but I doubts), so I can't really say how good the NS server is except from playing on the lan at spider (where I get 5-12 ping, hehe).

Lucien
11-16-2002, 11:40 PM
Unless it was a DOS, I dont see how a pins attack could lag your server.

Ricebowl
11-17-2002, 01:51 PM
Well I have a server, not run from home but from a host company. The server IP is in the sig as well as the web site that goes with it. It's pretty reliable... Hawtpants was on it actually, I've seen him several times already, just didn't realize he was from here. :)

But you require it to be renamed and passworded? :(

Threeboy
11-17-2002, 02:19 PM
perhaps.
for that night.

Narfwak
11-17-2002, 05:47 PM

d00d, people ping flood servers all the time.

Narfwak
11-17-2002, 05:52 PM
Well, the CS tourney at spider is now complete. My team, name both The Professionals (yeah, right) and {h8-cs} (we do, we really do) took fourth place. The 1-3 places were all taken by real clans, with SC7 taking first place. In addition, they all script hack. All of them. The only people that were not being asswipes were the non-clanners such as myself. At least we had some fun in between games with rcon speak.

In other news, I missed yet another game night. Fun. Unless it didn't happen again.

Unless you have a small pipe a ping flood should't take you down, unless it is a major scale DoS

Narfwak
11-19-2002, 02:24 PM
It didn't take us down, but it brought everyone's ping up by about 200 ms. Suffice to say, everyone left.
