I listen to pretty much everything from Alternative to Zydeco that has a good groove

EXCEPT:
-Celine Dion (and anything to it's equivelent)
-Teenage Pop/Punk singers
-Boy Bands
-Anything produced by American Idol and Popstars (Good lord, they're doing Canadian Idol now!)
-Heavy Metal (If I wanted to hear dogs bark, I'd go to the SPCA. I like Tool, but I don't consider them Heavy metal)
-Lame-oid country like the guy who sings "There's a tear in my beer"

My favorite radio station is 99.3 THE FOX (http://www.cfox.com)
My second favorite is ROCK 101 (http://www.rock101.com)

I also tend to listen to TOM LEYKIS (http://www.blowmeuptom.com) you can hear is show in Vancouver on MOJO RADIO (http://www.mojoradio.ca/home/index.cfm) Tuesday - Saturday from 3-7pm. He is hilarious. He teaches Men how to get more tail for less money and teaches women how men think.

I pretty much listen to everything hip-hop, so long as it actually is hip-hop. Ja Rule, DMX, and other Ludicrous morons can stay FAR away from my WinAmp. And of course, Beatles.

Examples:
Jurrasic 5
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
Common
All Natural

Our university station had some ill hip-hop shows (Higher, Beats Rhymes Life), but I think the people that made them graduated. Oh well.

Err yea you can add Rolling Stones to that list... and Rob Zombie..

The best time to come up with real deep stuff is at 4AM when you are thinking random thoughts.

Coolies, seen some very nice stuff in some of those lists, and have to agree with the bulk of at least Threeboy's. But two things I have to make note of....

The Living End??? How on earth have you managed to come across them??? One of my favourite Aussie bands, awesome live, but I knew they'd been to the UK, but didn't realise they'd done North America as well!!! Go Uncle Harry!!!!

Has there been much else of their ilk around? I know Jebidiah toured a couple of years ago, and Powderfinger (so sick of them) have done the rounds.

Secondly, no-one has meantioned my favourite band, and given the amount of Canadians, I'm surprised.... The Tea Party have got to be Number 1 with me by a long way!!! I've seen them 3 times this year in Australia, even spoken to them twice which was pretty special. I'm such a groopie! Gotta say tho, it's such a weird feeling being squeezed amoungst hundreds of people at one of their gigs, and them playing Psychopomp and me sobbing like a three year old.

And they played the Badger at the second show! Favourite song ever, but one I didn't really expect to hear live. Ever.

Ah yes, I know the Tea Party are huge is Australia - they're well liked here too.

I agree!! But I haven't bought the CD yet. Actually, my friend was listening to the "Walk to Remember" soundtrack in her car and I heard the song 'Dare You To Move' and just fell in love with it.
What a talented band. Wow.

I won't list specific bands, but lately I've been listening to as much local stuff as I can - I find a lot of it quite good, and they're actualyl people I can meet and have a drink with.

Joesiv: You're funnie hunnie, I wrote "Dare You To Move", not "Learning to Breathe". I know which CD it's on though, I was just stating that it was also on the 'Walk to Remember' soundtrack...which I agree, was awesome. 8)

I didn't even hear about Switchfoot until 'A Walk to Remember', which I made Maelstrom go to the theatres with me to see. However, he did not like the movie as much as he liked 'Sweet November'

I should be buying the Switchfoot CD 'Learning to Breathe' fairly soon, depending on how early I finish up all this school work stuff that I gots to do

I'll admit, I really liked Walk to Remember. Even if it was a chick flick. The movie got me a little choked up and it had a sad yet uplifting ending.

I read the book as well. It was kind of different than the movie, but still was very good and inspirational.

I love Rap and Hip-Hop, just not "murdah/money/guns/bitches/ho's/etc. BS. This kind of trash fits into too catagories - "ignant" and "bling." "Ignant" rap has all the purposeless and hate-filled gangsta rap that does nothing but fuel violence. "Bling" is by artists without art, rappers that can't think of lyrics to justify their "mad rims" and diamond-studded platinum teeth.

In constrast, I like hip-hop with real lyrics, real art, a real sense of purpose. Music with thoughtful beats and thoughtful rhymes, the kind of music that makes you feel. . . good.
