Well, ive been getting this stupid Disk Read Error for dvd's and some of my games, and from searching the internet, i found out its a defect. So after calling sony they said that they would replace my ps2, for free, i just have to pay for the SH. So ill probably get one with progressive scan (which seems to be the fix). But i wish they would call a recall because there are alot of people following repairs from where they open the ps2.

well if you have the disk read error, call sony and tell them to replace it. or else you will lay a can of kickass. (?)

ya, my friend couldnt play the double sided dvd's for a while, then his ps2 all of a sudden wouldnt play any dvd's at all, so his mother took it up to best buy where they bought it, and got a new one...

yep ive had a ps2 since day one.
it gets a little slow, and sometimes i have to mess with the disc mechanisms.
but overall it works pretty good for a what? 3 year old system?

Mine's been doing this weird thing, lately, where it reads the disc for a second, then won't read it, so you're constantly ejecting and injecting the disc for about 15 mins before the "Reading Disc..." message stays there for more than a second, so you know it reads. I'm thinking dirty lens.

i think if you wanna clean it well, you got to open it. i had the same problem as you so i called them and they said they would replace it too. so i sent it out and they sent me a new system but its only refurbished im pretty sure, i highly doubt they would send brand new ones out. anyways, the day i got it back i hooked it up and it played cd stuff but anything to do with dvds it wouldnt load. so again the system just sat there while i played my gamecube games than i found a site that had a step by step process on how to fix the disc read error stuff and clean the system

check it out. you dont need too much stuff other than screwdrivers, rubbing alcohol, qtips, and a marker. some compressed air if you wanna dust it out

My friend was having the same problem but he could get his to work for like 6 months after it started doing that by using a lens cleaner right before he played a game.

Don't bother sending it in. Go vertical.

It is vertical.

i doubt it would make a diffrence.

Yes it would. The defect you speak of has been known to be spontaneously cured when you turn it vertical. Just try it once.

Sounds like the PS2 has a few errors. That would suck man.
I can remember when my xbox kept freezing whenever I played Vice City. I was so frustrated that I didn't play it for a few months. Then it worked just fine.

I got an extended warranty on my Platinum GBA. Later on, they decide to release the GBA SP. When they do, I smash mine, and go and tell them I want a platinum one. They didn't have any, so they gave me a platinum GBA SP.

Sega rocks. It was a god among gaming companies. But now it's just a peon. Sad days indeed,

Sega fucking rules. Dont diss dreamcast.
Jace is right, Sega was a god among game companies.
They fought Nintendo, like david vs. goliath.
they were kings!
and now they are nothing but lost souls.

Dreamcast is the only console I have played in the last year.
Pound for pound the games are better than anything non-Nintendo related on the market right now.

Oh.
Dont mourn its death, but as longas we keep it in our hearts its never dead.
Yea dreamcast has the BEST ratio of Great games to shit games.
And in retrospect it was the best next-gen system.
However, it was ahead of its time. WAY ahead of its time. And it died before we could realize the folly in our decisions.
Fucking thanks alot Sony.
