Here's a slightly technical explanation of RSS documents:

But yeah RSS is pretty much just a metadata driven xml document that can be used to summerize a site and the information that it contains. It uses RDF(Resource Description Framework) to map that metadata into a syndicated format.

Now in the case of trueNuff, it looks to me like these guys are organizing and tracking the TrueNuff news publications.

These guys are just scraping though. They're opening your index.php and striping out the HTML they don't want. As soon as you change something it'll be broken. It would be much better if you released your own RSS feeds, and this way you could control how many posts are available and how many words etc. You could choose just to link to the comic page or actually include the image in the article. RSS is really sweet. If you are on Windoze I'd suggest using FeedDemon (http://www.feeddemon.com/) and NetNewsWire on OS X.
