What do you guys / gals think of webcomics based on video game characters, particularily when they do not follow plot lines at all related to those characters? It seems to me that many of the game character-based comics could be written with any non-descript protagonist, except that then there would be no incentive to read because the comic isn't funny or exciting in the first place. Is this bad form? Does it not matter because its a free internet? Should I not even care and ignore them?

I understand, and even some times enjoy camos of our loved gaming characters in a comic strip that has gained respect and the right to have a comic or two on these characters. But to base an entire series on something that they didnt create? And even worse not stick to the most basic characterestics of that italian plumber, blue hedgehog or whatever the hell it may be is just not good. Come on people! Use your heads for more then just looking up pr0n and copying classic ideas, and come up with your own with the use of your, or perhaps a friends, imagination (hey, your allowed to steal ideas of friends, everyone knows that). Be original.

i myself am basically tired of all the Nintendo crap -- i know lots of people still enjoy playing some of the games and such...i mean, most people have the NES emulator..which is fine and all.

but for god sake, they dont need to live their lives around it....it's old and its done with, i dont see how reading about NES crap would be enjoyable.

I think it depends on the circumstance. Basing an entire comic on someone else's intellectual property is just wrong, although a cameo appearance is generally OK. A good example of this is when Counter-Strike has appeared in TrueNuff; its funny, and it doesn't dominate the strip. Having a series that plays out as a biography of Mario would just be lame.

yeah..i very much agree with that Narfwak, little appearances are tight.

i think brando's riffin on sprite comics. ones that don't have much humor at all. there are some good ones, there are some great ones, but there are too many SHIT ones.
